چکیده
Cloud microphysics parametrizations control the transfer of water between phases and hydrometeor species in numerical weather prediction climate models. As a fundamental component modelling systems cloud can determine intensity timing precipitation, extent longevity cover its impact on radiative balance, directly influence near surface metrics such as temperature wind. In this paper we introduce demonstrate performance double moment microphysical scheme (CASIM: AeroSol Interacting Microphysics) both midlatitude tropical settings using same model configuration. Comparisons are made against configuration current operational single microphysics, CASIM configurations that use fixed in-cloud droplet number or compute concentration from aerosol environment. We configuring results precipitation rate histograms match microphysics. setting, indicate performs well configuration, but improves certain aspects field greater light ( < $$ 1 mm · \cdotp hr − {}^{-1} ) rain around frontal features. outperforms evident improved comparison with radar derived rates.

متن کاملImplementation of a two-moment bulk microphysics scheme to the WRF model to investigate aerosol-cloud interaction
[1] A two-moment bulk microphysical scheme has been implemented into the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model to investigate the aerosol-cloud interaction. The microphysical scheme calculates the mass mixing ratios and number concentrations of aerosols and five types of hydrometeors and accounts for various cloud processes including warm and mixed phase microphysics. The representation ...
متن کاملEffects of Cloud Parameterization on Radiation and Precipitation: A Comparison Between Single-Moment Microphysics and Double-Moment Microphysics
This study compares a single-moment microphysics scheme to a double-moment microphysics scheme using four observed cases of a mesoscale cloud system. Previous studies comparing a single-moment microphysics scheme to a doublemoment microphysics scheme have focused on microphysical processes or overall dynamics, precipitation and morphology of cloud systems. However, they have not focused on how ...

In addition to simple and mixed phase schemes in HDC, a more complex scheme with the inclusion of graupel substance being another prognostic variable is developed. The performance of the scheme will be examined against the Purdue Lin A bulk parameterization of cloud particles and precipitation drops that is primarily based on the works of Lin et al. (1983) and Rutledge and Hobbs (1983) has been...
